Expressing emotions through movement and dance
Classes are suitable for participants of all ages and skill levels, including people with disabilities. You will be able to express your feelings and emotions through movement, develop musicality, and cultivate personal presence. The DanceAbility approach will help you move with freedom and understand the basics of spatial composition. An important outcome of the classes is developing the ability to make active and meaningful choices — both in dance and in life.
DanceAbility method
The classes are based on the DanceAbility method, which embraces diversity and knows no boundaries. According to the DanceAbility approach, anyone can dance — from a professional performer to a person with Down syndrome.
  • DanceAbility Classes
The DanceAbility method allows participants to enjoy dance and find their own paths to self-expression. The classes are suitable for all levels.
  • Expressing feelings and emotions through movement
The aim of the classes is to help participants express their feelings and emotions through movement. Personal physical sensations are the main driving force of the method. This helps participants learn to relate to their bodies with greater sensitivity and freedom.
  • Developing spatial composition
The classes are structured in a way that constantly encourages participants to engage with the fundamentals of spatial composition.
  • What not to expect from the classes
The classes are built on personal sensations and based on improvisation. There is no work with mirrors, no memorized movements, choreography, or need to meet any standards. DanceAbility is also not about spirituality or rituals. In each class, participants carry out clear tasks — each at their own level, in their own way — and together these tasks unfold into a beautiful and elegant dance.
Zhenya Bakin
DanceAbility teacher
I am a certified DanceAbility teacher, trained in the method by its founder, Alito Alessi, as part of the ImpulsTanz program in Vienna.
I have been actively dancing for many years — both social dances (Lindy Hop, Blues, Salsa, Hustle) and contemporary dance. I learned movement through practice at TSEKH, Pilobolus, Jan Fabre Teaching Group, DK-More, Gogol School, B-12, TanzFabrik, Herräng, Lindy Focus, Swinglandia, Riga-On, and ImpulsTanz.
DanceAbility method in detail
DanceAbility emerged as a method in the early 1990s and has since gained worldwide recognition. Its founder, Alito Alessi, is a recipient of multiple international awards both for his work with people with disabilities and for his stage work as a director.
More than 800 certified DanceAbility trainers across 40 countries teach classes around the globe. They work with a wide range of groups: professional dancers, children, teenagers, older adults, blind participants, autistic people, people with limited mobility, people with Down syndrome, deaf participants… And all of these people become a little happier during DanceAbility classes.
